Just Another Day

I spent another day with nothing to do, no place to go and little to occupy my time and my mind. My spirit continues to sag as I wait hour after hour and day after day for someone to pay attention.

My parents are mad at those who continue to ignore me. I listen as my mom, dad, and their friends speak of their frustration and anger. They question why the politicians, who you would think should come to my rescue, fail to respond to their phone calls, emails and letters.

While my friends at Center for Discovery are but a distant memory, I sit and stare at Oprah, Rachael Ray and Martha Stewart. They are now my new best friends.

I watch as mom tries to exercise her back. She knows she needs the strength to get her, and me, through another day.

There are a lot of you listening to me now. I ask you to let those who should be helping me know that you are out there and you are expecting them to do what's right.

  2. Dear Annie;

I've known your father and Uncle Steve for many years and am angered and sad to learn of your current predicament.

I live in Florida and am not sure how I can help but if there's something I can do, please have them get in touch with me.

In the meantime, hang in there as best you can.

    Love,
    Richard Pachter

  7. Some great people are helping to spread the word about your story. I hope with the great number of friends and fans they have there can be some justice and compassion. Until then I will be praying for you and sending lots of love and support your way.

Just a side not to those who do not believe this, I did not read one thing about money. They are asking to be heard. Please keep that in mind.

  8. Hey there. I myself am a New Jersey resident, and upon reading this have found myself ashamed at our state's inefficiency and obvious uncaring attitude when it comes to care for the disabled. My brother is autistic, and I can clearly remember all of those years in our childhood that my mother spent fighting to get him what he needed from our local school district. I shudder to think what will happen when he turns 21.

I'm not sure this will help, but I know that Herbert Hinkle is the best attorney in NJ for representing people with disabilities. His office is in Lawrenceville, I believe. I suggest looking him up and giving him a call. Even if you have an attorney already, call and talk to him, he's truly a wonderful man. He has argued many of the precedent-setting cases affecting people with disabilities in the state.

  9. I also noticed that these people are not asking for any money, just to be heard. As a person that has suffered while not being diagnosed with epilespy for over 10 years then finally being diagnosed, my heart goes out to you and I wish there was something I could do. I plan to try and help somehow, just know that word is spreading fast and hopefully now they will listen to you! Stay strong

  10. Harvey... we met a couple times while we worked together at 550 (I think we last spoke about Dave Brubeck in the elevator). My wife's sister has Rett syndrome and is going through a similar battle with her state politicians. Thanks to you and your family for sharing Annie's story.

  11. Hello, my name is Lupita and I´m from Mexico. I just wanted to tell you that I support you. Writing this blog can make people notice what´s happening with you and what problems you are having. I can´t do much for you because I´m not from your country, but I´ll keep reading and I´ll spread the word and tell people about your blog :)

  13. Dear Annie,
my name is Anna, I'm about your age and I'm from Germany. I cannot understand how your government can close it's eyes and not look at you and your problems to see how they can help.
But as you see, word is really spreading fast, as even people like me here in Europe start taking notice of you.
AND: Nicole Richie posted a tweet about this blog on twitter and helps circularizing it!!

Wow. I hope it might help! And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you will find a way to get what you deserve, i.e. a proper treatment and the help you need!

  15. Annie,
You have a beautiful voice. And you are a beautiful woman ( I almost said girl, because 21 is unfathomable!) And you are being heard all over the world! How do we get your voice into the ears of those that have the power to change our laws and your destiny? And how do we do it quickly, so that you are not robbed of another day, week, month of a life without dignity? That's the million dollar question Annie - If I know your family....and I do, proudly...they will find it. And we're all here to help them, and you, and all the people who are so wrongly cast aside.

  17. Annie, things are gonna get better. Your family and friends love you so much and they will do whatever it takes to get you back to a good place.

To everyone that read and forwarded Annie's story, great job...but you can do more. It is an election year, send a letter or email to any and all politicians, include Annie's blog but also tell them that your vote counts and they must act.
NJ has the highest taxes in the country yet it is the worst state for a disabled person to live in. NJ is the most politically corrupt state and the brunt of every Soprano, Houswives, Toxic waste joke that is out there...yet our politicians do nothing but perpetaute that stereotype. They promise the world during an election, yet never deliver. They forget that they are public servants and they ignore the needs of the people that delivered them to office in the first place...But for the disabled, it is much worse because they dont count in the polls, they dont cost these pompous a-holes any votes and they dont make alot of noise...Put in a few handicap ramps around town and an elevator in town hall and they think that they did their job. At the wine and cheese party that night, the brag of their accomplishments in public service and how they are an advocate of the people...bullshit.

Disabled people are not just numbers, they are our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, parents, relatives and friends. They are not loved any less, their life is not worth any less, and they are not entitled to anything less.
More publicity goes to the misstreatment of animals than to the misstreatment of our most vulnerable members of society.
I was recently asked to perform at a charity event, it was a fundraiser for a perfectly healthy kid who wanted to race go carts and needed money....people actually showed up.

Call, write, email, tweet your state's politicians. Tell them your not going to vote for them and that your going to tell everyone you know not to vote for them...this will get their attention.

Annie - YOU HAVE BEEN HEARD AROUND THE WORLD!!! We will continue to be your voice that yells loud your story, we will be your legs that delivers your message, we will be your hands that reach out and touch...

  20. Annie,
I am so troubled to hear about your situation.I spoke to your grandpa Joe a few weeks ago and he was telling me how great you were doing, so I don't understand how something like this can happen. I'd like to help in any way that I can. If sending a letter will help I will do so, if something else is needed I will do that as well. My heart goes out to you and your family, and I hope that all these people reading your blog, together we can get your voice heard and make a change.
    Keep blogging,
    Cousin Nancy

  22. Dear Annie

I was just aware of this blog today, I’m very disturbed by the lack of interest that the politicians are showing. I will from this day on make it a point to let all people know what’s going on with you. The word must be delivered, so it will eventually find the right voice. In the meanwhile I sent out an email to the Gov, senators and congressman in the area. I hope, with continued effort, things will get done.
